Tradewoman Culture Chapter 1

Before we dive deep into the life of a tradeswoman, I wanted to explain why I am emphasizing the fact that I am a "woman" in the trades.
I did so because I myself felt emphasized within the culture, both in good ways and some, not so good.
No matter how many talk about the normality of a woman entering into a male dominated profession, there is nothing normal about it.
No matter how long you've been in the trade or what is on your resume, the second you walk into a new job, you are being sized up, measured and weighed.
Not because I am considered a threat, and not because they have heard of my reputation, but because of what I look like, because I am a woman.
This is life as we know it boys and girls and I have faced the facts long ago and no one can fool me now!
I don't treat it as a factor at all, i just remove it from play and it never enters my head again. In all actuality it matters not at all unless you make it matter.

The thing you need to do is this....You need to ask yourself 3 questions...
Who are you? How do you want people to see you? and most important of all...
Do you want them to respect you? These may seem like stupid things to say, but I swear I have come across too many people who have definitely not asked themselves those questions!

In this journey I want to tell you my story, but at the same time I want to share the lessons I've learned through my own experience. I want to tell you all the crazy stories I have to tell. But most of all I would like to talk about a culture.
A culture, us as woman need to develop together, in which we thrive as equals.
A culture and society derived from Self Respect, Hard Work, Craftwomanship
(I made that up), and having Pride in what we do!

I am not going to sugar coat things, and I am not a hardcore Feminist either, so you might not like what I have to say, or my opinions on how I feel woman should conduct themselves while at work on a construction site.
But you know what? that's ok, this has been my journey, and I have experienced way too much in this life, to do anything but only tell it like it is.
This world is absolutely crazy, and a lot of it just doesn't make sense at all, but your job, you spend 80% of your life at your job.....It better be a good one!
